OpenOffice is a free alternative to Microsoft Office. The spreadsheet application in OpenOffice is called "Calc" and is very comparable to Microsoft Office. The OpenOffice package of programs is by Sun and can be downloaded at www.openoffice.org.

Another free option you might like is "Google Docs". The software (which includes a spreadsheet) stays online instead of on your computer. Because of that you, or your friends, can access the programs and files from any computer at any time. Visit docs.google.com.

Al-Khwarizmi - author of the first book of algebra. Click here to see a picture of the USSR stamp issued in his honor. The title of his book included the words "al-jabr" in Persian which became "algebra." The title of the book is "The Science of Reduction and Reunion". Reduction = taking things apart. Reunion = putting things back together.
