- Quest Adventure Game Editor - Make your own adventure game! For computer programmers, an editor means a program used to write programs, like a word processor is used to write letters an editor is used to write programs. Quest is an entire point and click editor designed to make your own adventure games. It looks like fun so this summer when I have some free time I think I will play with it and try to make my own game. The basic editor is free so you can download it and start learning it yourself. In the "help" menu of the editor is a tutorial program with a lot of screen shots that looks like a good way to teach yourself how to use it. You can even make multi-player games. Very cool. It also looks like a good introduction to programming since you have to learn to think like a progammer and to be able to put yourself in the eyes of the user.
- Adrift Adventure Game Editor - Another tool for making your own adventure game! Thanks to Reilly for finding this one. The home page is a United Kingdom site (Quest is also a UK site, for some reason the Brits have a monopoly on text adventure game generation software). The "Adrift Generator" is the program used to design a game, the "Adrift Runner" is the program used to play the game. They, along with the user's manual, are in a free download (hit the "download" menu item naturally). The only limit in the free version seems to be the size of the game you can make. Give it a try!
