HW: Make a graph of your "speed" (y - axis) vs. "time" (x - axis) from the time you wake up until you get home on a typical school day (see the graph on page 44 - example 3 for a similar graph).

HW: 1. Finish "foldable" exercise - click here (also on page 5 of text) if not completed in class. 2. Worksheets Skill 3 "Adding Whole Numbers" and Skill 5 "Multiplying Whole Numbers". 3. Homework Bonus: since "peri" means around and "meter" means measure, find other words that include "peri" with the meaning "around". Explain why "peri" is used in your word.
Tues. 8/16/2005 Class: Converting fractions to decimals by long division, multiplying fractions, long division practice, rational (fraction) numbers = terminating or repeating decimals, irrational (not fraction) numbers = non-repeating, non-terminating decimals (like pi or any square roots that are not perfect squares).
HW: Read Chapter 1-1 "Variables and Expressions".
Wed. 8/17/2005 Class: Fractions to decimals and percents, rational and irrational numbers, Ch. 1 "Variables and Expressions" including using meaningful variable names.
